Nov 24, 2019,
Hi {!firstname_fix},
I am putting those fireworks up there to celebrate the fact that we have officially transferred the community out of Yahoo Groups and into our new service at io. We seamlessly moved many thousands of people, 20 years of archives which included well over 200,000 messages.Nothing was lost, nothing got messed up and no one was aggravated.
The people who were finished with the program left easily and without a fuss, And hundreds of people woke up and decided to come back and re-engage and recommit. It has been a joyous homecoming to see old members return and be welcomed back to breakfast. The system is easy to use, efficient, and responsive. The tech support to us is fabulous so we are able to answer questions quickly and easily. The technology is upgraded and we are able to focus on the message rather than dealing with flawed technology.
The one change that was a stretch for me was the outlay of funds to make the shift. The cost ran to about $5000 for the entire shift. A number of you said to me, *Kathleen, just set up a way for us to get money to you and we will totally support you. You have sitting at your computer every day for more than 20 years. Let us help you now and show our gratitude for the miraculous changes you have created in our lives.*
So I made the leap of faith without any hesitation. I have put up a little *donate* button over at www.radiantrecovery.com . David tested it with the first donation. So, here I am inviting your generosity for supporting this shift which is about communityt. I am inviting your collaboration in the vision for the future. I am doing this with both pride and gratitude. I think we have created a miracle, and it is something of value, worth being funded and supported in its growth.
And those of you who have been around since the beginning know what a big deal it is for me to be doing this. I think I got what you have been saying to me for such a long time. Thanks for the patience.
I am glad you are here, glad you found us and it is my joy to be in service to to your healing.

WORKING WITH KATHLEEN
Coaching is a special offering for people who are serious about enhancing their programs and would like to have ongoing coaching. Kathleen personally runs the coaching groups. This is not a class but is a process to support your progress. We have added a special chat for people in coaching. It meets twice a week to accommodate those who are in Greenwich Mean Time and those who are in USA time.
Coaching includes four options now: Return to Radiance Coaching for those who have done the steps in the past and then drifted and would like to get back on track. Skilled Coaching is for people who are steady on the steps and ready to work on Step 7 life skills. Special Coaching is geared to people who have special considerations. Introduction is for people who are new to the program and would like support in the basics of getting started and getting steady. The fee for coaching is $20 a week, billed in 2 week intervals. If you wish to join sign up for coaching and then we can talk about which section to join.

Kathleen also provides individual intensive coaching geared to your specific situation. Signature Coaching helps step out of the craziness of sugar addiction, return to steadiness and clarity after slipping away, slow down and focus on your recovery, or deepen a steady rhythm of recovery.
This is a way to step out of feeling overwhelmed with where to start and what to do. Because it is so individualized, we can work on what is right for you at this point in your journey. People tell me that coaching helps them feel safe and focused. We work with your style, your rhythm. This is a unique opportunity to release your fear and let go of shame. The guidance can shorten and ease your process so that in 3 months you will do what you might take a year to do on your own.

"Learning to say *no* starts from the inside out."
Testimonial of the Week

I have two early RR memories to share. The first happened on one of the first days that I did a program breakfast. That morning, I realized that I felt more stable and strong than usual. I also remember not having a strong sugar urge when I passed one of the candy bowls. (Striking that NOT wanting candy stands out so clearly in my mind!)

Those feelings really stuck with me. I remember telling a friend about that morning at work, and saying, "I felt DIFFERENT." This helped me to believe that Kathleen's program wasn't just a book that made sense to me . . . and that there really was something to this food program.

The second occurred a few months later. I was very discouraged about a number of issues, and I was crying so hard one morning that it was hard to get myself ready to go to work. I shared about my problems, and that my problems had driven me to have nothing but cake for dinner the previous night, and I was really upset at myself. I really felt at the bottom of the barrel.

Kathleen popped in and answered my post in that very succinct way she has. She pointed out that the extreme emotions/tears were a result of the cake that I had for "dinner" the previous night. That helped it click for me. I learned that yes, I do have problems, but often the reason they seem so unmanageable and I feel so emotional has to do with the sugar I eat, as opposed to the problem itself.

This was a whole new way of thinking for me . . . that my problems were getting me down so much not because of the nature or severity of the problems themselves, but because of how I had been eating. On the plus side, this means that as my food gets better, although my problems might not, my ability to handle them will. And that is already happening (although I have quite a way to go!).

If you haven't read this yet, make sure you do.There are going to be lots of changes coming for YLD members. I have been gathering up the list of anyone who has joined since 2004 when we first started the program. It is very touching to me to see your names and remember what we have all be through together.

Over time, I have come to appreciate the depth of what YLD really does. Originally I thought it would simply give you a safe and sane way to lose weight without being crazy. Over the years, we have come to see that it does something deeper than that. It completely rewires diet head and alters our self image being determined by a number on the scale. This is hard to explain. Freedom from tyranny might come close, but I am not sure that even that will explain it.

I have decided to run a number of the YLD classes right on the new list. There will be no additional fee for this. I simply want you to have this experience no matter what. What I am adding is 2 coaching options. One will be for weight loss readiness which will allow you to sort your skills and create your plan under guidance. The second will be weight loss skilled which will support you in doing it.

I will go into the details of each of these at chat. I also will be sending out a mailing to all of you who have joined YLD in the past. And finally, if you once joined in the year we offered that "annual" option, please note that your membership has shifted to LIFETIME so you will be getting an invitation from me as well. Let. me know if you have any questions.

If you would like to join us in YLD, come find us here.

Saying No

42 Ways to Say No

(or buy time until you can)

especially during the holiday season!

by Margot Silk Forrest

author of A Short Course in Kindness

A lot of us have difficulty saying No. This list, offered with compassion and a little humor, will help you get comfortable with turning people down, refusing to answer nosy or offensive questions, asking people to stop doing something you dont like, and telling others you disagree them.

As you develop your No muscles, see if you can shift from saying I cant to forthrightly saying I wont. Also try exchanging I dont want you to for Dont. You will feel vastly more empowered -- and have more time for yourself and the people you really care about when you do.

When Someone Asks You To Do Something For Them or With Them

1. The enthusiastic (polite/helpful/etc.) part of me would like to say yes, but the rest of me is overcommitted (more realistic/unwilling/etc.).

2. I don't know. I'll have to think that over.

3. I wish I could help you out, but Im overextended/overcommitted right now.

4. I'm going to pass. I'm really trying to slow down my pace these days.

5. Thats something Ill have to think about.

6. I don't have my calendar with me, but I can call and let you know tomorrow.

7. Sorry, I'm already booked.

8. No, I can't make it after all. But it was nice of you to ask.

9. Ill think it over.

10. Thanks, but I'm way too tired.

11. No, that's not really my thing.

12. Don't hold your breath!

13. I have an appointment that day/night. (And you dont have to say what it is!)

14. Thats not for me, thanks.

15. Oh, that sounds interesting. Let me think about it and get back to you.

16. I'm not sure if I'm free that day/night. Let me check and call you tomorrow.

17. Sorry, but my schedule is too full right now.

18. The part that wants to make you happy wants to say yes, but the rest of me won the vote. I'll pass.

19. Thanks, but I don't think I will.

20. Thats not really something I enjoy.

21. That doesn't work for me.

22. That doesn't fit for me.

23. When you want to have some fun saying no, try one of these:

Not in this lifetime! Forget it! Dream on! No way, Jose!

You must be kidding! Not in a million years! Are you out of your mind?

When Someone Does, Asks, or Says or Asks Something Invasive

24. I'm not comfortable with that.

25. I'd like to ask you not to _________________________________.

26. I'd like you to stop __________________________________.

27. Please stop doing that. I dont like it.

28. I'm uncomfortable right now with what you're saying/doing.

29. Thats not something I talk about except with family.

30. Lets talk about something else.

31. I want to keep that to myself.

32. That's my business.

33. I'm surprised you think you have a right to that information.

34. I don't feel like talking about it.

35. And you are asking me this because ?? (Try saying this with a look of utter disbelief.)

36. Sorry, that's not something I talk about.

37. I never answer questions like that.

When Someone Says Something You Disagree With

38. I see it differently than you do.

39. We certainly don't agree about that.

40. I have a different point of view.

41. My experience of _______________________ is somewhat different.

42. I hear what you are saying, but I dont agree with it.

Here is the Annie Lane column that brought so many of you here.

Dear Annie: I read with interest the letter from "Weird, Stupid or Selfish?" – whose husband eats all the decorative candy she puts out. His inability to resist sugar resonated with me, as I have sugar sensitivity and have engaged in exactly the same behaviors. I simply could not resist sugar.

After years of struggling and dieting and sitting in work meetings obsessing about the doughnuts instead of the topic at hand, I discovered the book "Potatoes Not Prozac," by Kathleen DesMaisons. Her theory is that people who are sugar sensitive have brains that respond differently to sugar, alcohol and refined carbs and that what they eat and when they eat it have a huge effect on them. She shows how to rebalance blood sugar levels, serotonin and beta-endorphins through small lifestyle changes and offers the latest research, free online support and seven steps to change your life. It is not about willpower; it’s about biochemistry, which her program can slowly improve, just one tiny step at a time, with amazing results.

I have been sugar-free for six years now, lost 25 pounds and never gained any of it back. I can go to dinner with family and don’t even think twice when someone orders dessert. I don’t have cravings, and sugar is no longer on my radar. I am more focused and more tolerant, and the daily mood swings are gone. The woman who wrote to you could suggest to her husband that he check out http:// radiantrecovery.com to see whether he does have sugar sensitivity. At the very least, she would be better informed about this condition. – Happy Without Sugar

Dear Happy Without Sugar: I hadn’t considered that health issues might explain

her husband’s behavior. In fact, I hadn’t even heard of sugar sensitivity.

Thanks for opening my eyes to the condition! I’d like to encourage all readers to talk to their doctors if they find themselves compulsively eating sugary snacks.
