Hi {!firstname_fix},
This is a picture of a lunch I made on Saturday. I had a guest and just needed to put something together. We had a brown on the side. And that is my kitchen table. But I have to tell you I was totally blown away at how beautiful this was and how much it filled my heart.
I have struggled with lunch for many years. I hate to stop what I am doing. I hate to always have to think about it. I have no problem with either breakfast or dinner. but lunch was always irksome. However, this lunch changed all that. This lunch made me smile. This lunch made me sing. This lunch solved my lunch block. I actually think I will print this picture and put it on my desk and remember that this lunch Is always right there in my kitchen and will take me 5 minutes to make.
Here is what is even funnier. When I say this lunch is always in the kitchen, I actually mean that. We make hard boiled eggs and always have a full carton of them. I always have tuna in the cupboard. And  99% of the time I have those very vegetables in the refrigerator. The Coop is 5 minutes away and always carries those things. There is balsamic vinegar in the avocado.Today I was thinking about this and realized that I could have cold cooked potatoes in the refrigerator as well.
I have no idea why we have blocks about something. I probably could do some psychologizing about. my lunch block, but I doubt it would be helpful LOL. I am sharing this so you might feel comforted if you struggle with lunch.
I put up a poll on the Step One List so if you are there and have not responded to it, please go ahead and do that.
Of course, I am planning RANCH.Remember those of you who are starting out, are getting a speciaI invitation. This is a time to learn how to the do the program in a way that you can get nowhere else. The dates will be May 15-16-17. Email me if you have any questions.

WORKING WITH KATHLEEN
Coaching is a special offering for people who are serious about enhancing their programs and would like to have ongoing coaching. Kathleen personally runs the coaching groups. This is not a class but is a process to support your progress. We have added a special chat for people in coaching. It meets twice a week to accommodate those who are in Greenwich Mean Time and those who are in USA time.
Coaching includes several options now: Return to Radiance Coaching for those who have done the steps in the past and then drifted and would like to get back on track. Skilled Coaching is for people who are steady on the steps and ready to work on Step 7 life skills.
Coaching is $20 a week, billed in 2 week intervals. If you wish to join sign up for coaching and then we can talk about which section to join.

I also provide individual intensive coaching called Signature Coaching.  It can help you step out of the craziness of sugar addiction, return to steadiness and clarity after slipping away, slow down and focus on your recovery, or deepen a steady rhythm of recovery.
This is a 3 month process that includes doing an in-depth assessment of where you are in the process, designing an individual plan for you and then meeting once a week via phone or Skype to work on your progress.
This is the way to step out of feeling overwhelmed with where to start and what to do. Because it is so individualized, we can work on what is right for you at this point in your journey.  People tell me that coaching helps them feel safe and focused. We work with your style, your rhythm. This is a unique opportunity to release your fear and let go of shame. The guidance can shorten and ease your process so that in 3 months you will do what you might take a year to do on your own. Signature coaching is also an excellent way to tackle any special needs you may have. like wanting to get sober, or dealing with insulin resistance, or special medical concerns.

Testimonial of the Week

Okay, my turn. Funny enough, I recovered by isolating . I isolated from everything that would take my focus off doing the program. I posted only to the then relapse class, now list, and I posted way more than I ever had. I did not post anywhere else or even read any other lists. I turned them all off. When possible, I did only those life things that would enhance my program. I am reconnecting w/my journal in a deeper way. I took both journal classes. But one of the best things I did for myself was to relax about being in relapse.

You see, I was terrified that I would not get my program back. I actually thought I might not be accepted back to the community (MY perception--nothing anyone said or did--please don't take this personally anyone--it was ME and MY anxiety). And when Kathleen opened the second relapse class to continue supporting us, I knew that there was a light at the end of the tunnel and that I was accepted and that it would all be okay. So I relaxed about it and that's when the healing began.

In fact, I actually ENJOYED being in relapse. I felt unburdened by only posting in one very SAFE place with amazingly supportive people. I was learning about the program in deeper ways than I had before because I was clearer and had more intention behind my actions. I could look at myself and understand the process. I was not desperate about weight loss. I talked to Kathleen about this paradox of enjoying relapse and likened it to Milton's *Paradise Lost* and the idea of the fortunate fall--Milton's belief that virtue untried is not virtue at all, but virtue that wins out over adversity is true virtue. (Sorry, I used to be an English teacher (sheepish grin). And here I am. Being radiant and silly and still working hard on my program; planning food, cooking food, and mostly, staying connected HERE. Kathleen, thank you for helping me get my radiance back. Well, thanks for helping me get it in the first place (crying). Have a nice day everyone.

As I have gotten older, the issue of dry eye has become more of a problem. Living in New Mexico, which is DRY, DRY, makes it way worse. You know I LOVE Nordic products, let's give it a shot. I know it is a bit pricey, but when I think about how much I am spending on eye drops, this sounds way better.

Here is what Nordic Naturals says about it:

  • Added Zeaxanthin and FloraGLO Lutein for ultimate eye protection*
  • 93+% true triglyceride form for optimal absorption of essential omega-3s*
  • Promotes healthy eye moisture and tear production*

ProDHA Eye® combines concentrated omega-3 fish oil with key nutrients that have been shown to protect the eyes and support healthy vision.* The omega-3 DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is more concentrated in eye tissue than in any other part of the body, and is vital to the structure and function of healthy eyes. By supporting healthy inflammatory levels, omega-3s can also help alleviate many common symptoms of eye discomfort such as dryness, pain, and redness.* FloraGLO® Lutein with zeaxanthin has been added to further support the structures of the eye and provide protection against harmful ultraviolet blue light.* ProDHA Eye combines these key eye nutrients in one convenient formula.

Going Through a HardTime

by Kathleen DesMaisons, PhD

I found that a whole number of folks on our leadership team were having a really hard time. At first blush it seemed as if it were simply the time of year... timing maybe, post Christmas stress, or winter fatigue or something like that. But as I sat and thought about it, I realized that this is way deeper than personal stumbling. I began to hear the same story, spoken in different ways and the more I listened the more I began to sense that something bigger is happening.

In 2005 we had a tsunami. It was a huge shift in the surface of the earth - a planetary shift that actually changed the earth's axis. This was a monumental event. The energy flooded, literally, and wiped away everything that had been. You held on for dear life or you were swept away. Since 2016, we some other types of tsunamis and created changes that have swept away how things were.

Now, it is funny, but this is the same theme I have been hearing over and over. Nothing that was makes sense. It all feels pointless. Things we have counted on no longer fit. I don't know who I am, I don't know where I belong, I cannot find my center. Too much, too fast and I feel like I am being sucked into a dark hole that is sucking me into instability.

Now a medical model will diagnose these feelings as clinical depression. And that same model will prescribe medication. It will identify the situations that precipitated these feelings of darkness. Of course there are "situations. "  But it feels so much deeper.

I think the energy shift of the world discombobulated us on a cellular level. Things as they were actually do not exist any longer. It is as if our 'magnetic north" changed and we couldn't get our physical bearings. And if we stumble and then our food gets off, we cannot sort it out. It feels so personal.  These times feel like a major spiritual crisis. Sometimes I can hold it and welcome change, and other times, I simply feel overwhelmed with sadness.

I talked about this in 2005 after the tsunami as a time of awakening. When things no longer fit, we have an opportunity to clear out that stuff, to throw away the stuff that does not fit and to make room for something new. We don't know what that will be yet, it has not emerged. So we have to endure this time of "in between" where the old is gone and the new has not emerged. However can we make sense of this? Now, it is so much bigger. I don't know that what a learned 15 years ago prepared me for this.

Rebuilding a solid foundation that cannot be swept away are all part of creating a way to hold what is emerging. Enough, on time. Clean the refrigerator. Get cabbage for the sauerkraut. And I know that what I am feeling is not just personal. This is the time to go back to basics. Literally. Rather than getting caught in how horrible it is, ask for help. Get connected. Trust that this is not just a personal stumble, but that you are part of a great shift. You got thrown off kilter and you can get steady. Get back on track with your food and program. Don't beat yourself up.

Last week, I said "If you are going to be with a person in a dark hole, take a ladder and a lantern." The steps are the ladder and our humor and perspective is the lantern. We are not alone. Grace is unfolding.

Here is the Annie Lane column that brought so many of you here.

Dear Annie: I read with interest the letter from "Weird, Stupid or Selfish?" – whose husband eats all the decorative candy she puts out. His inability to resist sugar resonated with me, as I have sugar sensitivity and have engaged in exactly the same behaviors. I simply could not resist sugar.

After years of struggling and dieting and sitting in work meetings obsessing about the doughnuts instead of the topic at hand, I discovered the book "Potatoes Not Prozac," by Kathleen DesMaisons. Her theory is that people who are sugar sensitive have brains that respond differently to sugar, alcohol and refined carbs and that what they eat and when they eat it have a huge effect on them. She shows how to rebalance blood sugar levels, serotonin and beta-endorphins through small lifestyle changes and offers the latest research, free online support and seven steps to change your life. It is not about willpower; it’s about biochemistry, which her program can slowly improve, just one tiny step at a time, with amazing results.

I have been sugar-free for six years now, lost 25 pounds and never gained any of it back. I can go to dinner with family and don’t even think twice when someone orders dessert. I don’t have cravings, and sugar is no longer on my radar. I am more focused and more tolerant, and the daily mood swings are gone. The woman who wrote to you could suggest to her husband that he check out http:// radiantrecovery.com to see whether he does have sugar sensitivity. At the very least, she would be better informed about this condition. – Happy Without Sugar

Dear Happy Without Sugar: I hadn’t considered that health issues might explain

her husband’s behavior. In fact, I hadn’t even heard of sugar sensitivity.

Thanks for opening my eyes to the condition! I’d like to encourage all readers to talk to their doctors if they find themselves compulsively eating sugary snacks.
