Re: Question about Yahoo
In Response To: Question about Yahoo ()

Teresa,
Well, you guessed right. The reason you can see your email address is because you are logged in as you. Just as other peoples' email addresses are not completely visible to you, your address is not completely visible to them.

According to the Yahoo info on aliases, it says aliases "are used to mask your Yahoo! ID in places like Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo! Message Boards". That doesn't sound like something that is used to mask your ID in email lists.

If you go to "My Account" you can edit all sorts of things about yourself. I don't see an age there, but I have a birthday on file, and I'm sure I could blank that out. I think you already found this page, though.

Finally, most of the time when people see your name it's because that's how you set up your email. You might want to go into your email settings and see if this is something you want to change. Unfortunately, if you do, then regular people you send email to may not recognize who you are.

Thanks
Kitty

: I'm trying to find out how to hide my email address on my posts. I
: notice other people's email addresses are only partially
: visible. Maybe the reason I can view mine completely is just
: because I'm logged in, but I'm not sure.

: I did notice in the edit profile section it is possible to create
: an
: alias. I presume the purpose of this is so that rather than
: ditching
: our account if we want a different id, we can choose to use
: something
: else. For me when I first joined yahoo I used my name and age at
: the
: time. I do get a bit tired of seeing my name and 25 after it. I
: would
: like the option to use something a little less personal. I was able
: to create the alias in my account settings but I don't know how
: to use it when I'm posting.

: I'd be grateful for some guidance. :h6)
