Hi {!firstname_fix}

I wanted to follow up on the email I sent out about AOL members. I sent the note to everyone. Several people suggested that if you put me in your address book, it will solve the problem of blocked emails. I am sorry the note was confusing since I sent it to everyone. Thank you for all the input.

Thank you all for your feedback on the abuse articles. One of our community members reminded me that many women are perpetrators of abuse as well as men, that women and men commit domestic violence against partners equally frequently, and that women are far more likely to commit violence against children. I have called the combined article I am writing, "The Dance of Abuse". I want to convey the sense that if we are sugar sensitive, the chances are high we have been in this dance, and often on both sides. In doing these types of topics, I want to help take the moral charge off them, that means no shame, just solutions, just like we do with the sugar addiction part. It is my intent to help you all see how biochemistry adds to the problem and how changing diet can help the solution. I want to give you one more filter to use to make sense of very complex problems.

If you would like to join the bookstudy for Little Sugar Addicts, don't forget to join the radiantbookstudy list. Patti, the liaison of the bookstudy list, Gail, the liaison of the parent's group, and I will be leading the study. We will be reading the book closely and would love to have you. And even if you do not have children or grandchildren, come join us. Many people have commented that the book is helping them make sense of their own childhood in a new way. And if you do have children, this is a not to be missed opportunity. And.....have the kids sign up and came participate too.

This week I will be starting the audio recording of the Little Sugar Addicts book. I will keep you posted on progress. We will offer in both CD and tape format.

Also, please note the changes in YLD talked about below.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see.

Rather than simply giving up sugars, you are creating a life plan.

** Testimonial for the Week**

I've been using Kathleen's journal for a month. I like that it's already set up with the columns--I don't have to do anything except record the date, my food, timing, emotions and feelings.

I had been using the "other" box to track my twice daily anti-depressant doses but I found that I missed a few because that wasn't obvious enough for me. So I used a blue highlighter ('cause its more obvious than yellow for me) and put a box in the left margin next to the first food line and then another one 3/4 of the way down the food lines. When I take the capsule I jot the time in the box. At the end of the day I fill in boxes where there's a time with the blue highlighter. It gives me a good way to quickly scan to see if I've missed: solid blue box = taken; outlined blue box = missed.

I've started using this technique with the water. Most days I have a cup of coffee which means I should make sure to have extra water; so I highlight the ninth box of the water row as a reminder. When it's been as humid as it has here, I need about three rows to check for all the water I drink! (I think, however, the point is to get a minimum, not to track the exact amount.)

I've also used scotch tape to make tabs to pages I refer to a lot, such as the feelings pages--cheap, easy, invisible, and permanent enough for the recording life of the journal.

I've used some of the blank pages in the front (these are tape tabbed too) to jot down: The questions are based on what my starting complaints were: I've put small sticky notes on future pages with reminders such as "Review according to SARP pages 61-69." That way I don't have to carry this "to do" around in my head, but know that I'll be reminded when I need to do it. In fact this morning I came across one for this weekend.

Hope that helps, Holly

**Your Last Diet: More Than What You Think**

Ok, we are going to be changing the meaning of YLD to Your Latest Discoveries. This will reflect what we are really doing. I know that losing weight is a huge motivator for you to spend money (smile), but I really have so much more to offer and I want the name to reflect it. Yes, this is an awesome place to learn how to lose weight and to get the support to do it. But after I did all that work to come up with solutions that work, I want to look at other things. Last week I presented some preliminary information about the role of dairy products in weight loss. We will be looking at that more as I finish my analysis of the literature on it. I will also be looking at such varied topics as choosing the right breakfast cereal for your children. You just never know (smile).

I am also going to add an input box for YLD members to ask questions and offer suggested topics for the chats. I really want this to be YOUR place to get information.

One other change. YLDonline has been a lifetime membership program. I will continue this option through August. Starting in September, memberships will be annual. If you have purchased a membership by September, 2004, it will be lifetime. After that, it will renew each year.

One other change. YLDonline has been a lifetime membership program for $97. I will continue this option through August. Starting in September, the $97 memberships will be annual. If you have purchased a membership by September, 2004, it will be lifetime. After that, it will renew each year.

Come join us and hear about this success!

**Radiant Ambassadors**

Our FREE card program has expanded. We have added Radiant Recovery cards as well. You can get them from our store for free and pass them out to friends, in-laws, teachers, doctors and even your hairdresser. A number of people are taking them to 12-step meetings. One caution (smile). They are for people who want them, not for people who need them. Do not put one in your neighbor's mail box! She will call me not you and she will not be happy.

If you love the program, consider joining the ambassador group. We are having a blast!

Come find us among the Online Groups

**David's Corner **

Ok, we are doing a special. You know we don't often do that. But this week, anyone who orders a cookbook will receive a radiant recovery apron for free. The aprons are denim and are great for any messy project, not just for cooking. So when you are doing arts and crafts with the kids, or washing the dog, or cleaning house, they are just great.

And next week I will be telling you all about the new tofu makers we are adding. First, Kathleen is going to experiment and I promise I will try it. When we were growing up, one of my favorite meals was a sautéed tofu dish she made. And I was a hamburger sort of guy at age 11. Amazing that I LOVED her tofu.

The store got a new look this weekend. The rescue dogs kept chewing on the entrance platform, so we converted it to concrete. Man, were those dogs shocked when they tried to chomp it!

Plans for a new shake are progressing greatly. Kathleen has been on the phone the whole time I have been gone with senior scientists at the university of Minnesota to verify both content and taste. It is really exciting to be in on the ground floor. Wait until she explains all the different constituents of whey protein!

Please send questions and suggestions for items you might like to see in our store. YOU are building our store. Tell me what you want and we will sort it out.

Thanks
David

And of course, we have something for everybody in our store

**Featured Topic**
What is Radiant Ranch Anyway
by Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

This week, I am going to write about a lighter topic (smile). I need a little time off from the complex stuff. I have had a number of emails in the past few weeks asking when our next ranch will be. I also have had some folks ask me what it is. Is it a seminar or a conference or what? I thought it might be helpful to give you some context.

Originally, I started ranch so I would have a reason to go up to Ghost Ranch once a year. That location is one of my most favorite places in the world. It is where Georgia O'Keefe lived and painted for the last years of her life. However, as we grew, they were less and less willing to work with us about the food, so we made the decision to find a place here in Albuquerque. This made *ranch* more accessible in many ways.

Your leadership team attends ranch at no cost. It is one of the benefits they receive for their amazing commitment and generosity for the community. Part of ranch is their opportunity to come together and play once a year. However, as some of you might have noticed, I am very invested in leadership development and empowerment. So the role of the liaisons has grown. Last year, they presented some of the material they love best. They are skilled, funny and amazing group leaders and added 1000% to the ranch experience. Their willingness to do that meant that I was able to spend time with the kids who were attending for the first time.

So ranch grows and evolves. Each year is the same and yet different. I always use it as a time to offer new ideas and thoughts on healing sugar sensitivity. We are already thinking about what ranch will be next year. I think of it as the heartbeat of our community. Yes, we present *stuff*, but really, it is the coming together that makes it what it is.

Anyway, the new page is up for next May's ranch. Check it out and decide if it is for you.

This is what one of the community members who attended this year shared about her experience:

Three opportunities to go to Ranch passed me by because I wasn't sure if I'd even still be doing the program by the time Ranch rolled around! But finally, after many trials and tribulations with Radiant Recovery, I learned that it truly worked for me, so this past May I took the plunge and went to Ranch for the first time and absolutely LOVED it. It truly was the best decision I could have made.

I can't tell you how cool it was to be in a room full of people just like me, and hearing Kathleen speak was just wonderful. The food was great - on program and always on time - and I left Albuquerque feeling better than I ever have. It was great for my program and really strengthened my commitment. I also made some great life-long friends who I can call up or email for support. Also, the lists have "come alive" for me because I met to so many people at Ranch. It's really helped my participation in the lists.

Here's my two cents IF you think you want to go to Ranch. Start saving on your own now, (and by the way, it really is a bargain), and tell your hubby you are taking a personal retreat, which is led by this amazing woman who wrote these amazing books that you feel are life changing. :)

You can invite your husband to come along, but I would suggest you try to go by yourself. I love my husband a lot and he's a good sport about my program, but I think it was important for me to do this on my own. I know I connected more with people, than I would have if he would have come along.

I should let you know that my husband was very skeptical about all this because I've been on so many diets and tried so many things. Not to mention the fact that I've spent hundreds of dollars on everything under the sun. But now that I've been following this program for a while, he has noticed that our relationship is 100x better, and our life is a lot nicer with me doing this program. He knows I can now get on a plane without being doped up on Xanax, and how much less anxious I am about everything. I told him that Ranch was awesome, and that I planned to go to many more. And he said, "cool!" So there you go.

I would love to meet you! Give it some serious thought over the next couple of months. Oh, I am not trying to twist your arm or anything LOLOLOLOL!!

Best,
-Brenda
