Hi {!firstname_fix}

You are subscribed to Simple Solutions the monthly newsletter from Radiant Recovery®. To unsubscribe, find instructions at the end of this email. A copy of this newsletter may also be found posted on the web at http://www. radiantrecovery.com/weeklynewsletter.

I am in New York where we had the seminar yesterday. Oh my, did we have fun. Thank you all for coming!

I will not be starting any new classes this week, but will resume the week of October 3rd. You can see an updated schedule by clicking here. Go look because I have added some new ones like anxiety, diabetes and the gut one. (smile)

One of the classes will be the IBD/IBS/bad gut class for those of you who have such things. Several of you raised some questions about whether this was IBD or IBS. Actually it is both and neither and I am sorry for the confusion. We are going to provide solutions for sugar sensitive people with bad guts. Part of it is figuring out where you fall on the continuum and what your options are. As I said earlier, this is solution oriented. If you wish to join this class, please go ahead and order a copy of Breaking the Vicious Cycle from the Store. We will be referencing it in the class. The class will run two weeks.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online with one lesson each day. You do not have to be at your computer at any set time.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant RecoveryŽ website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

Your molecules will yearn for balance, care, and healing. Instead of cravings for sugar, there will come a longing for wholeness.

** Testimonial for the Week**

I had a realization about my journaling tonight as I was reading posts and thinking about my program. I've seen many times Val and others suggest that we substitute "body" for "journal" and I've seen people do that in things like "I hate my journal." But I couldn't ever figure out a way that a statement like that applied to my feelings. But, tonight it came to me. I forget about my journal. Or in reality, I forget about my body. The blanks in my journal are as powerful as what is written. When I don't journal - I'm forgetting about my body. I'm not taking care of her. I'm not in touch with her. I always journal breakfast - when I eat my breakfast I'm taking care of my body. I tend to want to journal when my food is good and I'm focusing on doing the steps. When things get rough, I have resistance. I think because I don't want to hear that I'm neglecting my body. I think this is also part of why I have such resistance to taking my journal out with me - I tend to be more loose with my food when I'm out and about. This feels like an important connection to me so I wanted to share.

Happy journaling,

Emily

**Recipe of the Week**

There was an error in last week's newsletter saying that the Easy Marinate Bean Salad was good for spreading over Ryvita's. That was actually in reference to the Chumus recipe from the week before. We are sorry for the confusion.

For those celebrating Rosh Hashana, carrots play an important part. Here is my program friendly version for "sweet" carrots. And for those of you not celebrating, they are yummy for any time.

MAPLE ORANGE GLAZED CARROTS

Peel the carrots and then slice into 1/4 inch pieces. Place carrots in a covered vegetable steamer over boiling water for 10 minutes or until they are tender. Remove from heat and set aside. In a large saucepan, heat the oil. Add orange juice, orange zest, steamed carrots, salt and nutmeg. Stir to coat and cook until heated through. Remove from heat and add maple extract., mixing well. Serve immediately.

**Your Last Diet: More Than What You Think**

It is nice that we have all settled into a routine. The weight loss class is blowing my mind...again. We are working on weight loss stories. You guys are simply amazing. And the Foundation class is wonderful. I am glad we did that split. Thank you so much for the process. I just love it.

And here is what one of our members shared with us this week:

Hi! I haven't checked in for awhile, either. I joined YLD a few weeks ago, and am very happy with it. I go to a beginner's chat on Mondays, which is a chance to ask questions, and hear what is on other's minds. Weds. night is a chat with Kathleen. I was really worried about going to chats because I have been in chat rooms where everyone is talking at once, and many topics to try and follow. In Kathleen's chats, there is order, and the screen doesn't scroll fast. I have time to read everything. There is a topic, chosen by Kathleen, and all is orderly. It is a little overwhelming to realize that you can read all the books, and join the email lists, but in YLD you have direct access to Kathleen, and information that is personalized just for us. Each week, I am taking home something that helps me do better.

I'm also on the YLD email list, and a YLD foundation list. There is a benefit to YLD that I did not expect. That's radiance. Not my radiance, but everyone else's. It has been said that you become like the people you associate with. Well, there are so many in YLD that are on step seven, and their attitudes are infectious! They lift me up, and I so look forward to having that kind of radiance within me instead of just surrounding me! I struggle sometimes with not wanting to follow a step, or looking for a shorter route, or wanting it all, now! I believe it was Kathleen who said that if you want what we have, do what we do - or something similar!

When you are interacting with others who are steady, laughing, losing weight, and reaching their personal goals, it really helps me to set my mind to follow the steps. It also helps to know that they are not perfect, either, and make mistakes. They just recover better and faster.

My journey is more solid, and more do-able because of YLD. So what about all of us here? We are a very special group of people who can work this program together, and become radiant together. I know I can't do it alone.

Looking forward to baby stepping with more of you.

Therese

For those of you who are not yet YLD members, click here if you are ready to change your life or just plain ole have fun. A number of you have asked me about the option of installment payments for YLD. We have set up an option of making 3 payments of $40 each. That option will come up when you go to subscribe.

**David's Corner **

Ok, we have a new supplier for Pycnogenol. Kathleen suggests this as an adjunct for those of you who take the fish oil. It strengthens cappilaries so you get all the benefits of thinner blood without the risk of bruising. The best of all worlds.

We were disappointed when our supplier stopped carrying it and said "Oh, this other product is as good." Kathleen said, "I don't think so" and went on a hunt. I always love how diligent she is with stuff like that. I like our new company.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better. As you know from my note last week, I have set up a little planning group to talk about what we want for the store. Please click here to join me at radiantstoredevelopment.

One other quick reminder. We do not have a telemarketing company handle the phone service. If you call at 5 AM our time, you get the voice mail. You are welcome to leave your order or ask any questions. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks
David

And of course, we have something for everybody in our store

**Our Online Groups**

And we'll do this one again since there was an error in the link last week (smile).

The Radiant Journal list is a source of helpful information and support with journaling. On this list we talk about how to get started with the journal, how to start listening to our body and why giving it a voice is so important. We also discuss how to use the journal for detective work in our program and, of course, how to make journaling fun! Right now the list is rockin' with people supporting each other and making big discoveries with their journal. So whether you are just starting out or are looking for a recharge in your journaling, come on over and join in the fun!

** Featured Topic**
On The Art of Journaling
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I love this article and will share it with you from time to time. This whole issue is about my favorite thing.

I think it is easy to find the journal a pain in the you know what when you don't *use* it. Or when you don't want to *see* what it says. But when it becomes a tool, and you like the information, then it comes alive. Let me give you a specific example. Yesterday I was prowling around feeling grumpy. And I was thinking about sweet things, LOL. I wrote in my journal, *I have no idea what is going on*..then this little voice says, *Oh, count back 4 days and see what you find, woman!*. Well, four days ago I made the decision to cut butter out of my diet. Butter raises BE. 4 day effect = craving and grumpy. I was just laughing at myself.

Now, I like to think of myself as pretty skilled with my food. But without my journal, I would be just plain stupid because I do not and cannot remember the kinds of details that tell me what is really going on. I would like to think I do, but I do not. I miss the details where the data is.

So here is the thing...if some one comes in and YELLS, 'I HATE MY JOURNAL'!!!!!!!, my response is *Oh, don't be silly, don't bother with it. We are such drama puppies. That is part of being sugar sensitive. But....(smile) if you want what we have, do what we do.

If you want to stay wrapped in fuzz and depression and drama, then you can do that too. And I do not mean this judgmentally at all. I say this to myself. If I get sloppy with my food plan, and I do from time to time, then my life gets sloppy. It took a long time to accept the direct correlation. I didn't want it to be that way. I wanted it to be *stress* or getting older or the time of the year. But it is not, It is the quality of my food plan...which means food, timing, JOURNAL.

Many people ask what kind of journal, what do I write, how much do I write, what if I just put fine a hundred times, what if I lose it, what if someone reads it and a thousand other questions. It really is very simple. We made up a journal for you that works really well. If you don't like that one, get one that suits you. Use a simple note book. Write enough to know the story. This is for you, not for perfection. Give yourself data. If you put *fine* in for your feelings a hundred times, use the feelings list in Your Body Speaks to teach yourself new words for *fine.* If you lose it, get another. If someone reads it, shrug and keep writing. This is not a personal, intimate discussion where you bare your soul, it is a log to teach you to make connections about how you feel and how you do your program. You don't know yet how they correspond. Journal, journal carefully, and find out. If you want what we have, do what we do.
