Ah, the neighbors! In my teenage years I helped my Dad a lot by driving the tractor on the field for hours. I would get sleepy, so I began singing to stay awake. Since the tractor made a lot of noise, I had to sing loud enough to hear myself. Later I discovered that the neighbors had been quite amused by my singing. I developed a fairly strong singing voice this way!

I still enjoy singing, but like you, I need to reserve it for when I am alone, as my family does not appreciate it very much.
