Hi {!firstname_fix}

Yesterday morning, I was standing outside by my car and I heard the sound of the cranes. There were waves of them, all flying NORTH...a good sign for those of you buried under snow. (smile) The most amazing thing was watching them call to one another as they flew around in a circle. And then, they would turn north and fall into formation...and within 2 min, they had formed that V formation we associate with bird migration. It is simply extraordinary.

What a time it has been these last few weeks. Feels like the community has been doing the same thing. Collecting, gathering, and planning new directions. It is very nice energy...feels like spring is coming even if snow still lies on the ground.

**Testimonial of the Week **

The food spikes - I have just very recently started to notice how food is related to the spikes throughout the day. Just yesterday I made a conscious decision to lessen the impact of a spike by deciding to wait and have my "sweet fix" until after I had dinner. In the last weeks or so I have slowly been moving sweets into my meals and it has slowly lessened the impact of spikes. I don't feel terrible or super great....I just feel even Steven if that makes sense. I can start to appreciate what food does for my mood and I am excited! I am getting steady slowly.

Raising the natural state of BE - I am noticing that little sweet joys make me glow. I am starting to appreciate this little glow and how it's slowly raising my BE bar. I'm starting to appreciate "quiet time" and its powers and also the power of walking and how that raises my BE. It's like feeling a soft warm light instead of feeling a jolt of electricity when I get a spike from sugar.

**Radiant Life **

I went through the flat like most people. I felt like I didn't have the same intensity to life. I didn't like it. But I also felt like there was a light inside starting to stay on, or internal music that didn't get silent. So I accepted that maybe things might be more dull, but at least I wasn't going down into the black hole anymore.

Now my life is full and exciting. The flat went away after a while. I love my life. I have hard times, but I'm there for them. I have exhilarating times. Radiance feels like I go through life as who I truly am, without drugs or blocking out or super stimulants.

Radiance is staying awake, which can be hard. But it also gives me a stronger connection to what I call God. I think it took at least 6 months to change, and it kept changing long after that. I've been off sugar for over 6 years now and feel such ease and stability with food.

I'm enjoying all your posts, cheering you on, Cheryl.

Selena head shot

I was alerted to an article entitled Sugar on Trial in the New Scientist.

One particular part jumped out at me:

"For several years neuroscientists have found it useful to compare energy dense foods to addictive substances such as cocaine..."

Several years?! I do believe a certain Dr we know has been using that comparison forever!

Addiction only got a cursory mention. There are an awful lot of references to 'war' in the article - something that's used a lot nowadays. And obviously 'obesity' and how much someone weighs is the sole indicator of health (!)

But sugar in itself is not 'bad', it's just how some peoples bodies respond to it - and that can be changed as we well know.

Anyway, it's good to see more discussion about sugar.

You never know.

**How I Found Radiant Recovery **

Hi everyone

My name is Bill and I am just beginning this journey. Recovery alcoholic who learned to self medicate as a young boy. After many years in recovery I found myself obese and threatened by my weight health wise. Found out about sugar addiction in Food Addicts Anonymous. When I looked up sugar addiction online I found Radiant Recovery. Praise the Lord a program I could sustain.

Looking forward to the journey

Warm Regards

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

Cod Liver Oil Cod Liver oil has been used as an immune enhancer for hundreds of years. This week we are featuring Nordic Naturals Arctic Cod Liver Oil - the fish oil that started their line. We choose to carry this line because Nordic Naturals starts with the best raw material available: 100% pure Arctic cod (Skrei) sourced from the Norwegian Sea. They have built direct, exclusive relationships with smaller boats and independent fishermen, rather than larger trawling vessels that spend much longer at sea. These relationships allow them to maintain optimal raw material quality as well as sustainable fishing practices. They offer only 100% Arctic cod liver oil. No fish body oils or synthetic vitamins or additives are ever used—only pure Arctic cod (Skrei), which has the highest DHA, vitamin A, and vitamin D content of any cod species.

As an aside, I also just learned that their oil is sustainably harvested. That pleased both Kathleen at me and is consistent with what we have done with the Shake lines.

Using the liquid is great for people who don't like to take pills and wonderful for those of us who just love to put it in our shake and be on for the morning.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

Creamy Lime Vinaigrette

Diane found some creamy lime vinaigrette at Trader Joe's. See what you think.

I especially like this dressing on a southwestern style salad - I typically use greens, tomatoes, black beans, roasted red pepper, avocado, jicama, a sprinkling of Trader Joe's frozen roasted corn, and grilled chicken.

I'm not a fan of cilantro, or that would be in there somewhere too. I do sometimes add a pinch of cumin to the dressing.

Another way I use it is in a brown chopped salad I make with grill leftovers. Brown rice, black beans, and whatever grilled veggies and meat I have. My favorites to add are pork, red peppers, zucchini, corn, asparagus and chopped grilled or roasted tomatoes. Cumin goes well here too, as would cilantro. I do add chopped fresh parsley, if I have it.

**Radiant YLD **

Recently someone sent me a review article that compared the low fat/low carb studies. It showed that now as we have some peer reviewed scientific studies we can demonstrate that low carb works way better. First I went to the review article that had lots of charts and graphs. And sure enough, low carb showed better results than low fat...usually about a pound a week. Then I went over to read one of the most recent articles in the Journal of the American Medical Association. I find that going to the original material often gives me very different information than the short version in the media.

Yep, short term, low carb was better. But I kept reading. it said, *After 12 months there was NO (caps mine LOL) appreciable difference.* But wait, keep reading. Then there was this sentence...*adherence was low and attrition high in both*...

Read that again...

So...guess what, DIETS don't work.

Why is it that in YLD, over time, *adherence* improves and *attrition* doesn't happen. People get more engaged, more hopeful and more committed?

Here we have a solution, a solution that works. We start with fat terror, we heal that. We move to the myths about obesity, and we dismantle those. Then we HEAL the addiction that creates the problem. And we start reclaiming our bodies, our identity and our motivation grows and grows and grows.

When we hit a glitch, like menopause, or stress, or plateaus, your fearless leader says, 'OK, here is the way around it.'

And then after 10 years or so we have a foolproof package. If you want to lose weight, here it is. And ironically, some people say, 'Ah...I am ok just the way I am.' And some people say, 'I am ready, I want to go for it...let's ADHERE!!!' Or course we are adhering the joy dot practice and doing the food on the side.

Now, if you have wondered whether you should join YLD...now is the time. This is the moment just before the *IPO*...when the birds are collecting and calling...'Minnesota, are we going to Minnesota? Do you think we should go through Kansas or Iowa?'

**What Makes A Difference **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I have been still the last few days. I have been doing a lot of reflection. Why is it that some folks come to the program, do the food and find their lives changed? And others play with it, poke around, do a little here and there, and then go away and say it doesn't work? Or do step one for two years and wonder why life is not better? Why do some decide to rewrite it, adapt it, take only what they like and throw the rest away?

What makes the difference? I am thinking that there are three key things:
  • You have to trust it
  • You have to commit to it
  • You have to persist in doing it
When you are out of control and desperate, trusting, committing and doing seem really, really far away and really hard. You are likely to argue, question and want answers to every possible concern before starting. You want to see if it will work, try it out, have a money-back guarantee. You want to play without obligation. You might be too busy, too committed to other things, you might not want someone to see your journal or know your life is out of control.

When you find it takes time, you get bored, frustrated, angry, inattentive or sloppy. You blame the program for not meeting your needs. Or it is too confusing so you stop and say it didn't work. And you go do a real diet.

But there are others who say, 'Yes, this is for me' and they believe it, they do it and it works. What is that about? What happens? Where does that first trust and commitment come from? It is funny to think this, but I think ultimately, it is an act of faith. With a regular diet, you can pick or choose. There are thousands of them. If one doesn't work, you just try another. This silly program is different. It's so simple, it is so deceptive. It asks you to put aside what you have been taught. It asks you to do maintenance first. No glamour, no quick results, no hype. It says what you need to heal is here. If you want to use it, you can. Doesn't have to cost anything. You don't need a doc or to pay thousands of dollars. Doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, or smart or not, or living in a family. If you do it, your life will change.

As I wrote this in the morning fog, I started to laugh because the simplicity of this message goes way beyond the food. I have a spiritual guide. Every morning I meditate and read from her work. This was yesterday's reading:

If however, instead of being desires, they are aspirations for spiritual things, and one continues her life with regular progress, then one is absolutely sure to one day obtain what she has imagined.

I think that the struggle with 'doing the food' mirrors the struggle for a spiritual life. Trusting, committing, doing. Somehow this makes me laugh. I work so hard to complicate things. I thrash around, question, argue, insist that I know better and then I say the 'program' doesn't work.

This time is about quieting, living into the stillness, letting simplicity help me trust, help me recommit. It makes me remember the 'absolute trust in the supreme wisdom of the divine that it knows better than we do what is good for me.'

Thanks for reading! If you know someone who could benefit from this, feel free to forward it to them.
