September 15, 2014

Hi {!firstname_fix}

I went to the farmer's market this morning and it was filled with the smell of roasting chile - the smell of New Mexico this time of year. The peacock family is reunited, also a sign of changing weather. In the summer, the males hang out with each other while the females tend to the babies. Now the babies are close to adult size and everyone hangs together. Betcha didn't know that about peacock culture.

Things are moving toward Euroranch time. Preparations have been made, materials in place and the Ranch list is talking about reservations at the best Indian Restaurant in Salisbury. We have lovely new people coming this year and are excited to welcome them to the event. We have a couple of slots open if you decide on a whim that you would like to come. The material I am presenting was very well received in May so I KNOW you will love it. Go here to book.

**Testimonial of the Week **

Oooooh wowsers!!!

This is great, well done for posting about this, I am blown away by Kathleen's comment:

Stop thinking about *no bingeing* - that continues the illusion of being in control of addiction.

I can sooooo remember being where you were, getting really frustrated with myself, thinking "Well, this isn't working for me. I don't want to be eating all this sugar!!!" But, when I surrendered and really focused on my meals, the food, the cravings became less.

I think something that I hadn't realised at the time was how important it was to add in the good stuff, and by doing that my body was getting *fed* for the first time. It took her a while to work out she was going to be given nutrition and proper food and to trust that.

I hope you can be gentle with yourself, I know you will get there. Sometimes for me, then and now it's a case of, "Just do it Steph, left foot right foot = feel better. Oh, but I don't want to feel better, being stuck and miserable is doing something for me!!!!"

What are you having for breakfast? This week I'm having a shake with oats, protein powder, cacao powder, oil, banana and coconut milk. It's da business!!!! Yesterday I didn't hold the lid on properly and it exploded all over my kitchen, LOL, as the force of the blender shot a piece of frozen banana out of the lid!!! I drank what was left, cleaned up and started again!

See, doing the food can be yummy and fun LOLOL!

Steph x

**Notes from the Forum **

Great observations!

You reminded me of the time when I was having a rebel about step 3. I was eating far too late lunch and knew I had to pack it and bring it in to work to eat before going home. Sulked a bit. But trying it was a revelation. I felt all steady and happy, instead of stretched and irritable. I didn't have to 'try it for a week and see' - knew the first day.

Step 4 list has been great for me in the past for sounding out my potato-practicals.

Glad you are sleeping so well. Let us know how your findings-out go! You have such a willing attitude to it, so impressive.

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

Here is a note that Karen sent from England. For those of you who live overseas, we can help. If you have any questions, just email me. My job is to make you happy.

Restore jar The store .... well I wanted to share this. I live in England and realised I was about to run out of protein powder. So I ordered from 3 places on the same day thinking one would arrive shortly. Well, theGeorge's® Restore arrived the same day as the protein powder I ordered by phone from a UK store (5 days including a weekend) and the online order of protein powder from a UK site still hasn't arrived. Plus pricewise - including shipping - it worked out to be comparable. A huge thumbs up to the store and David.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Radiant Kitchen **

Gluten Free Corn Meal and Rice Pancakes
  • 1 cup corn meal
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 TBS melted butter
  • 1/2 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs whites, beaten
Mix dry ingredients. Combine with egg yolks, butter, rice and half the buttermilk. Blend, then add the rest of the buttermilk. Fold in beaten whites. Fry on lightly-greased griddle.

These are great for breakfast, or a quick dinner, or to use as a roll-up to take to school as a snack. If you want to make roll-ups, just add a little more buttermilk.

The fun thing is you can fill them with all sorts of great things, like chopped chicken or ham, green chile and cheese ;), sloppy joe meat, egg salad, tuna salad...

And of course you can do fun things for breakfast with them, like mashed fruit.

For more great program-friendly recipes, check out our cookbook in the store and visit our online Radiant Recipes site.

**Radiant YLD **

YLD is feeling very settled these days. I think this is because we have such a sense of the weight loss road map that flows out over time. We think of it as three phases: Healing, fitness, weight normalizing. You notice I didn't say *weight loss* (smile)... we have found that a whole number of people are joining in who have practiced restriction and are realizing that they just don't want to do that any more. They are looking for a healthy way to find the body size suited to their inside. And I love that we have created a space that all people, regardless of their weight, can be welcomed.

Of course, last week, we ambled into the territory of how fatties feel about those who restrict and *appear* in a size that is so culturally accepted. I think what we are learning is that in essence we all have been stung and burdened by *fat terror* in whatever form it shows itself. So YLD might be more about healing fat terror. Once that is taken care of, then the logistics of recreating one's body are pretty straightforward. Ironic, isn't it?

**Our Online Groups **

The Radiant Step Two list is a source of helpful information and support with journaling. On this list we talk about how to get started with the journal, how to start listening to our body and why giving it a voice is so important. We also discuss how to use the journal for detective work in our program and, of course, how to make journaling fun! Right now the list is rockin' with people supporting each other and making big discoveries with their journal. So whether you are just starting out or are looking for a recharge in your journaling, come on over and join in the fun!

**The Power of our People **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I had gone to a a tribal gathering of the Lummi Nation a few years ago. Then I went up to White Earth, which is the home of the Annishinabe people, also known as Ojibwes and Chippawa. I had been invited to speak about our work. But something happened while I was there. The experience of being in the culture moved me deeply. The nations have a *people* who have been connected and share a heritage and culture and land. American white people do not have a people in this way. Most of my life I have thought about my family history and how it shaped me.

But when I was with the native people, I thought about our community in a different way. We come together because we share a biochemistry. We have a *family* of shared experience; the pain of being outside, of not being understood, of trying to make sense of things and feeling that we cannot find our way.

We come here, and something happens. It is not obvious right away. It feels comfortable and welcoming, but we don't realize that something is changing - some sort of rooting in our healing. When I sign books, I often write, *Let radiance wrap you and hold you*...this is something I mean and something I have experienced. But the meaning of that idea, of this as radiance wrapping our people, is bigger than any of us imagined.

Listen to Ted. His letter is like thousands I get each year. This is your community, your healing. And every day I give thanks to the creator for it!

Warmly,
Kathleen

Hi all, my name is ted... and I'm not new to this program, only this part of it. For me this program is not about God, it's not about why it took 64 yrs to get here, or the horrible pain I've endured over the years. It's about getting another chance to get it right. It's all about the food. If I get the food right my life will unfold the way it was supposed to. By doing the food my mind is clearing, the mental pain has stopped and my knees have stopped burning. I don't know why I'm here now, with you all, or why it took so long for me to find out what was wrong with me. I'm here now and that's all that matters. After 50+ yrs of knowing something was wrong with me I finally have the answer. I never stopped searching, not ever. I went to AA and got sober, I went to Christian crusades and got saved, and I tried every diet and self help program I could get my hands on......and nothing worked, not for long anyway......and low and behold I stumbled onto this simple program. Tried it once and failed, but for some reason I returned and I finally GOT IT......it's the food...I am a sugar addict and if I do the food right I am right...I have never experienced a change the likes of which I am going through now. I have embraced this program with every ounce of my being and will never look back. My on-going recovery has been in direct proportion to my obedience to this simple program. The better I work it the better I feel. I don't really know how I got here but I am thankful I'm here and here I'll stay...just doing the food and smiling......hugs to all ted
