Hi {!firstname_fix}

My *prairie* is filling my front yard, creeping from the North to the South. A fee more rain storms and all the dirt areas should be filled in. My goal is NO MUD in the rain. My plan is to cut part of it and keep part of it wild with wild flowers. The back has been taken over by 3-foot-high weeds and a carpet of goat heads which are the weeds from hell. I paid a weeder guy yesterday to start working on it. I told him I didn’t care about any of the weeds except the goatheads. Just pull those. I said it three times, LOL. I went back after an hour and he was methodically pulling all the weeds a one-foot-square at a time. Of course this meant that after 5 hours, an area about 20 feet by 5 feet was done. There were still 5000 goathead plants with 100,000 tiny yellow flowers, each of which will produce a nasty sticker that HURTS the paws of any dog walking on it. This is serious business, and would mean that no dog could ever go into the back.

I went online and googled *rent-a goat-Albuquerque* and found that rent-a-goat is only California. I continued to poke around and found some forum where someone in 2012 asked if anyone had any goats. Another person answered and left her phone number. On a lark, I decided to call her. She picked up the phone. Yes, she has many goats and yes, they like to go to summer camp. She asked about my fencing, she asked about my weeds, and yes, goats like to eat goatheads and yes, goats will not gorge themselves, LOL. We will talk more on Monday. I promised that all dogs would be locked up while goats are at camp. I will keep you posted.

I have learned that problem solving is a great dopamine raiser.

Note: Prepare your Introvert brains for change coming. We will be migrating to a new website within the next week. Do not be alarmed when you wake up and things look different!

Obesity Myth (2 weeks) - I LOVED this book and I think it should be required reading for anyone who is concerned about weight. Come join us in an in-depth look at the *myth* issues and the emotion residue we all have from them. It is one of the books that helped to heal me in a major way. I will look forward to sharing its implications with you. And if you have taken it before, I suggest you come take it again because my own understanding has changed so much.

Resting when you are tired may seem like an outrageous idea, but learning to take care of your body is the focus of your path to recovery.

*going through some camping clothes I wore last year and finding them too big to wear this year. The surprising thing is that I didn't even register the weight loss, just "Oh bother, I won't be able to use these this year." Wow, didn’t see that coming!! Linda

In Response To: My progress

Lovely story Margaret. Was so inspiring to read. I sometimes forget how I used to worry , and how an upcoming event would panic me for months in advance food-wise. Preoccupied is a great way of putting it.

I think that's great advice of yours for newbies about the resources. We are so lucky to have so much available - and it does make a difference doesn't it?

Thanks so much for sharing with us. I particularly like the part about previous sleepiness and now you honour your body with the 10 mins rest instead.

This weekend, many newspapers are stuffed with ads for going back to school. We need office supplies, backpacks, containers, pens, paper. I figure it is just a great time to get your journals. Don't forget we have both the beautiful blue and the subtle all black.

The journal is such a tool. Just the right size.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

Mosaic is famous for her gram Yorkshire Pudding (gram means gluten free ;)), so I asked her for the recipe.

  • I have just got a bit dizzy looking at online calculators, so I have to rely on other maths geniuses to translate, I can only say I *think* 150 mls is 2/3 cup and 2.5 oz gram flour is 2 of my heaped tablespoons !

  • 150 ml semi skimmed milk

  • 2 size 3 eggs ( medium) but I often use large as I have them

  • good pinch salt

  • 2 1/2 oz gram flour ( garbanzo. chickpea)

  • mix it all up in a hand blender and let it sit for awhile. I always do it several hours beforehand as it improves. In the fridge.

don't ever lick the batter as raw gram is awful and you will never consider it again

  • heat a tin in the oven till its really hot. I use a proper Yorkshire pud tin, it does 4 for that recipe ( Lakeland) or a bun tin will do.... a 12 hole tin will do about 8.

  • a little oil in the tin while heating.

  • carefully add the cold batter to the hot tin.

  • Top shelf if it's an ordinary oven gas 8 or 9..... 230 - 240 C 10 mins or so..... dependant on your oven.. so you may have to play with yours to see.. my newish fan oven is so fierce I haven't quite got the hang of it yet.

  • So very browned edge is nice. these are slightly crisper than your usual Yorkshire perhaps, they puff up lovely and have a nice hole for the gravy or stuffing something into. I like them cold as well which may be a bit weird
Here was my reply:

ok, I will work with it and report back.

in F temps it would be 450 - 500 degrees. 2/3 cup = 157 Ml, so a wee bit less and 1 cup of gram flour = 3 oz so we would need about 3/4 of a cup

http//www.kingarthurflour.com/recipe/master-weight-chart.html

I will repost it below...

  • 2/3 cup 2% milk

  • 2 size 3 eggs ( medium) but I often use large as I have them

  • good pinch salt

  • 3/4 c gram flour (I am going to use Bob's Red Mill Garbanzo)

  • mix it all up in a hand blender and let it sit for awhile. I always do it several hours beforehand as it improves. In the fridge.

don't ever lick the batter as raw gram is awful and you will never consider it again

  • Heat oven to 450-500 degrees

  • heat a tin in the oven till its really hot. I use a proper Yorkshire pud tin, it does 4 for that recipe ( Lakeland) or a bun tin will do.... a 12 hole tin will do about 8.

(I am going to use a cast iron skillet)

  • a little oil in the tin while heating.

  • carefully add the cold batter to the hot tin.

  • Top shelf if its an ordinary oven
I will play and report back.

**You CAN say NO **
Margot Silk Forrest

Margot Silk Forest is one of my most favorite people in the world. She taught me how to graciously say *no*. I think this is a great time of year to hear it again! I have included her list of 42 ways to say No right here.

42 Ways to Say “No”
(or buy time until you can)
especially during the holiday season!

by Margot Silk Forrest
author of A Short Course in Kindness

A lot of us have difficulty saying “No.” This list, offered with compassion and a little humor, will help you get comfortable with turning people down, refusing to answer nosy or offensive questions, asking people to stop doing something you don’t like, and telling others you disagree them.

As you develop your “No” muscles, see if you can shift from saying “I can’t” to forthrightly saying “I won’t.” Also try exchanging “I don’t want you to…” for “Don’t….” You will feel vastly more empowered -- and have more time for yourself and the people you really care about when you do.

When Someone Asks You To Do Something For Them or With Them

  1. The enthusiastic (polite/helpful/etc.) part of me would like to say yes, but the rest of me is overcommitted (more realistic/unwilling/etc.).
  2. I don't know. I'll have to think that over.
  3. I wish I could help you out, but I’m overextended/overcommitted right now.
  4. I'm going to pass. I'm really trying to slow down my pace these days.
  5. That’s something I’ll have to think about.
  6. I don't have my calendar with me, but I can call and let you know tomorrow.
  7. Sorry, I'm already booked.
  8. No, I can't make it after all. But it was nice of you to ask.
  9. I’ll think it over.
  10. Thanks, but I'm way too tired.
  11. No, that's not really my thing.
  12. Don't hold your breath!
  13. I have an appointment that day/night. (And you don’t have to say what it is!)
  14. That’s not for me, thanks.
  15. Oh, that sounds interesting. Let me think about it and get back to you.
  16. I'm not sure if I'm free that day/night. Let me check and call you tomorrow.
  17. . Sorry, but my schedule is too full right now.
  18. . The part that wants to make you happy wants to say yes, but the rest of me won the vote. I'll pass.
  19. Thanks, but I don't think I will.
  20. That’s not really something I enjoy.
  21. That doesn't work for me.
  22. That doesn't fit for me.
  23. When you want to have some fun saying no, try one of these: Not in this lifetime! Forget it! Dream on! No way, Jose! You must be kidding! Not in a million years! Are you out of your mind?

When Someone Does, Asks, or Says or Asks Something Invasive

  24. I'm not comfortable with that.
  25. I'd like to ask you not to _________________________________.
  26. I'd like you to stop __________________________________.
  27. Please stop doing that. I don’t like it.
  28. I'm uncomfortable right now with what you're saying/doing.
  29. That’s not something I talk about except with family.
  30. Let’s talk about something else.
  31. I want to keep that to myself.
  32. That's my business.
  33. I'm surprised you think you have a right to that information.
  34. I don't feel like talking about it.
  35. And you are asking me this because… ?? (Try saying this with a look of utter disbelief.)
  36. Sorry, that's not something I talk about.
  37. I never answer questions like that.

When Someone Says Something You Disagree With

  38. I see it differently than you do.
  39. We certainly don't agree about that.
  40. I have a different point of view.
  41. My experience of _______________________ is somewhat different.
  42. I hear what you are saying, but I don’t agree with it.
