Radiant Euro Ranch Details

Welcome, Radiant Ranchers! We have more details on the Radiant Ranch experience and if you still have specific questions, raise them on the Radiant Ranch List so that everyone can benefit.

Getting Ready to Come

After you have registered for ranch, we will send you a link to join the euroranch discussion list. You can ask questions, meet the people who are coming and get a nice sense of what ranch is about. If you would like a roommate for ranch, you can arrange that on the list. We also encourage people to travel together. The list makes it really easy to plan this.

The Seminar

Plan to be at the conference room at the Red Lion for registration by 4 PM on Friday.  Then we will break for dinner and meet back at 7 PM for Orientation. The front desk can direct you to the room. There will be a number of experienced people to greet you and help you feel welcome. They will have name tags on so you will know they are from Radiant Recovery.

That evening, we will spend time doing introductions, giving you an orientation to the retreat and the lay of the land. We will make sure the first day is not strenuous and break reasonably early so you can get settled in.

The day will start on Saturday at 9 AM. Meetings will be scheduled in 90 minute chunks so you don't get too tired from sitting. They will combine a detailed look at the theory of sugar sensitivity and time to work on your own plan. We will work in a large group for the teaching component and then break into small discussion groups.

Each small group will have a leader who will keep things on track, answer questions and facilitate your enjoyment of the process. All the leaders have long term experience with the program and will be trained by me about our goals for the time. There will be lots of time for questions and answers and lots of time for you to get your concerns addressed. We will also allow time for breaks between sessions and breaks for you to enjoy the area.

You will get a schedule for ranch before you come. This is a guide to the general timing of what we do. Often we move it around a bit as ranch goes forward. We do this to accommodate to the needs and interests of the participants.

Arriving and Leaving

Directions for getting here are at the bottom of this page.

Registration is at 4:00 PM Friday afternoon. We will eat together in the hotel restaurant and then come back at 7.00.

We encourage you to come early to shift gears. It is hard to step into ranch if you leave work and then rush down to Salisbury. Think about using ranch time as a little holiday for yourself. Consider staying through Monday to give yourself a transition.

The seminar will end at noon on Sunday.

Accommodations

We have arranged with the Red Lion Inn for a special rate for Friday through Sunday nights. Making arrangements for staying there is up to you, but be sure to mention that you are part of the Radiant Recovery group so you can get the special rate.  Please do not try and book online as our special rate won't be there and other advertised rates should not be used as these do not include your special meals.

It was noted last year that the pillows are a bit old at the hotel so if you need a good one, it may pay to bring one with you :)

What to Wear, Bring

The dress code is casual. Most of us will be wearing jeans. The weather in England can be changeable so bring layered clothing and an umbrella!

We don't "dress for dinner" at Radiant Ranch. You won't need nicer clothes for the seminar itself, although you may want them for dining in Salisbury if you are doing any touring.

Do bring whatever emergency protein or snacks you might need if your trip takes longer than you expect or you need them during the seminar. Bring your supplements, a notebook and pen, your PnP/SARP/YLD/LSA book and your journal. Also for those not yet detoxed, be sure to bring whatever sugar you need (or make plans to get some) as all the meals will be sugar-free.

The Weather

The weather (and the temperature) can vary.  October is officially autumn but the temperature can be anything from 10-20 degrees Celsius and cooler at nights.

Absolutely bring a warm jacket and be prepared to add or remove layers. And never go anywhere in England without an umbrella and rain gear :)

Meals

Lunch on Saturday is included in your seminar fee. Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Friday and Saturday is included in your room fee. Last year the food was an absolute highlight, and the chef worked really hard to make all the food program-friendly and delicious. There were also several options at each meal so everyone could find something to suit.

You are absolutely free to choose the foods that work for you.  There will be vegetarian choices available at every meal. There will also be enough for bigger people. If you have any special dietary concerns, please let us know way ahead of time so we can accommodate your needs.

If you wish to have shake for breakfast, you will need to make it in your room. Seminar participants will be at all levels in the program, from just starting to old timers. Remember this is a program of doing what works for you. What works best at Radiant Ranch is choosing food similar to what you are used to eating. We will post the menu for ranch once it is firmed up with the hotel.

And while I know that you will not believe this until you experience it, I actually do not have any judgment about what you eat. You do not have to hide your dessert under your napkin when I walk by. Of course, if you have been doing the plan for a while before coming, you will have a much better time (smile).

Do not even consider doing a detox at ranch. Coffee, tea, and water are available before and between meals. We will not be serving alcohol. If you need a snack for "later" you will be able to get it at the hotel. They have a very complete bar menu.

We will not be able to provide a baked potato for you each night so those who need one please remember to take one from your dinner.

If you want to bring other things to eat, you are welcome to do so. Whatever you do, please do NOT choose to use this time as your sugar or alcohol detox.

Starbucks and Costa Coffee are both within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Recreation

Salisbury is a beautiful area for sightseeing - Salisbury Cathedral is a short walk from the hotel and there is also a bus out to Stonehenge if you do not have a car. We will be developing a few radiant outings as well.

Getting to Salisbury

Salisbury is located in South West England, about 1.5 hours by train from London Waterloo train station.

There are many options for getting to Salisbury:

If you are coming from abroad, the nearest airport is Southampton Airport which is a 30 minute train journey direct to Salisbury.

London Airports:

Heathrow:

Option 1: take the Piccadilly line (dark blue line on the tube map) into London and change at Green Park for the Jubilee line (silver/grey line) and get off at Waterloo.  From here take a South West Trains service to Salisbury.

Option 2: take a bus to Woking direct from Heathrow and take a train from Woking to Salisbury.  This is a quicker option than going all the way into London.

Option 3: Take the Heathrow Express train into Paddington station and take the Bakerloo line (brown) directly to Waterloo.

Gatwick:

Take the Gatwick Express to Victoria Station then take the District line (green) or Circle line (yellow) to Westminster and change for the Jubilee line (silver) to Waterloo.  Then take a train to Salisbury as above.

Stansted:

Stansted Express into Liverpool Street then take the central line (red) to Bank station and change for the Waterloo & City line (pale green/blue) to Waterloo.

London City Airport:

Take the Docklands Light Railway (double greeny blue line) to Canning Town and change for the Jubilee line (silver) to Waterloo station.

Luton Airport:

Take a First Capital Connect train to London Bridge rail station and then take the Jubilee line (silver) to Waterloo.

Arriving in London by

London Train Terminus:

Euston:  take the northern line (black) directly to Waterloo

Kings Cross: take the northern line (black) to London Bridge and change for the Jubilee (silver) line to Waterloo Station

London Bridge: take the Jubilee line (silver) directly to Waterloo

Fenchurch Street: take the District (green) or Circle (yellow) line to Embankment and change for the Northern line (black) OR the Bakerloo line (brown) to Waterloo

Paddington: Bakerloo line (brown) directly to Waterloo

Victoria: Take the District (green) or Circle (yellow) line to Westminster and change for the Jubilee (silver) line to Waterloo

If you get stuck, ask someone at the station.  In general, Londoners are friendly if asked and like to give directions :)

If two or more of you are coming from the same place its always good to meet up with a  travel buddy.  Black cabs in London are expensive, but if there were a few of you it would save a lot of hassle to get across London this way.
