Why Do the Steps in Order

I'd like to take some time to look at *why* Kathleen set out the plan like she has. It is not an accident! Each step prepares you for the following ones, and each one slowly tweaks your brain chemistry so that there is no huge jolt to experience. Doing it this way works! Follow this plan by the book and you will get there - guaranteed. When you are having trouble with a step, read read read (and talk to us of course) - and in your heart you will see that there is something you're not doing right, or that you've slipped on a previous step.

How do I know all this? Because I fought every step of the way. I thought I knew better and that I didn't need to do this or that. How wrong I was! Consequently it took me a year to give up sugar (which is pretty good actually because most people do what I did - some forever). What changed? I looked back and realised that I had never proved Kathleen wrong - nothing she asked me to do had ever not worked. So I decided one day to 'go with the flow' and give my self up to it and just DO THE FOOD!!

And it was all plain sailing from there on in! And I have to tell you that radiance is the best feeling I have ever felt in my life and I want you all to get some!

STEP ONE - BREAKFAST WITH PROTEIN. This is tricky for most people, either having brekkie at all or incorporating the protein in. It needs time to get it right as it is the cornerstone of everything. It provides stability in your life, maybe for the first time.

STEP TWO - JOURNAL. This is the beginning of your personal relationship with your body. Your body will talk through your journal and you must learn to listen! Once you get the knack it is amazing how your body screams that it doesn't want something!

STEP THREE - 3 MEALS A DAY. Again stability for the first time, maybe ever. This is leveling out your blood sugar.

STEP FOUR - VITS AND SPUD. This gives your body all the vits you need and starts to increase your serotonin levels. The potato *does* work best. But you have to give it a few weeks on this one. You will get a sense that it's working. This gives you impulse control.

STEP FIVE - WHITES TO BROWNS. Just slowly move over when you run out of stuff. I did it over about 3 months I suppose. The family didn't even notice! You can get wholemeal pastry cases, wholemeal pasta, and bread of course, change the breakfast cereal etc. Browns really stabilize your blood sugar and get you lasting until the next meal. And white carbs are as 'bad' as sugar - they go straight into your blood stream in the same way.

STEP SIX - REDUCE AND ELIMINATE SUGAR. This is actually pretty straight forward if you have done the previous steps correctly. You should already have far less cravings, and the ones you do have, you should be getting an understanding of what triggered them off. If you are expecting a crash, you can act to avoid sugar. It takes practice but it works. You have impulse control to resist cravings. You are steady and stable for the first time ever.

If you rush the steps above, and try to do them too quickly, your body chemistry will not have been healed, and you won't be ready for this step. If this step is at all hard, then you are not ready.

Sugar is a matter of shades of grey - it is *not* a black and white thing. You cannot just cut it out. I know you want to because you are scared of having any, I understand that, I was the same. But it just doesn't work. Slowly, slowly cut it down. One day you'll realise you haven't had any for a week and then it doesn't seem worth having any more......

Never tell yourself that you'll never have sugar again. I recently was assaulted by a bag of cookies at work, the big gooey ones. I smelt the bag and then was all "Woe is me! I can never eat a cookie again! Ohhhhhh" Then I thought, "hang on, of course I can eat the cookie, but is it worth it?" The answer of course was no. "A moment on the lips - 2 weeks trying to get stable again" (sorry it doesn't rhyme!). After that I looked at them and I no longer wanted one, it plain wasn't worth it.

STEP SEVEN - A WHOLE NEW LIFE! And believe me things will happen that you have never even dreamed of, it is worth fighting to get here and worth staying!
