Hi {!firstname_fix}

There have been changes around the house this week. David is settling in to the other side of my duplex. I told him to simply box things that he needs the space for his stuff. I am using the Clearing All that Clutter Class principle to deal with it - one box at a time. It actually is pretty painless. Nice progress.

It's been hot in the afternoons, so mostly everyone in my household is resting from about 3 - 7 (smile). This means dogs are lying right under the swamp cooler.

This class will begin Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Step 2: Introduction (2 weeks) - will teach you the basics of journaling. The class will give you step by step instructions in how to record your food and feelings in a way that gets you excited.

These classes will begin Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Using Radiant Resources (1 week) - is a free orientation for those of you who are brand new and would like to find your way around all the things we offer in the community. One of our mentors will show you the ropes. Watch for the welcoming email with a link to join the Yahoo list we use as our classroom.
What Else is Embedded in the Steps (2 weeks) - This is a special class for all you newcomers who want to move on ahead quickly or for those of you who came to the program *already doing everything*. Find out what else is in the steps besides the food. Get the inside scoop from the one who wrote them (smile). You do not have to second guess anymore!!

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

**Testimonial of the Week **

I have lost some weight. My clothes are becoming baggy. I hate to clothes shop. (After washing, things never fit as in the store). We went out of town this week to a bigger city. I decided to visit the second-hand stores and consignment/gently-worn clothing stores. I picked out some jeans, a few t-shirts/blouses and a casual suit. I am pretty pleased. I didn't spend more than $25 and have some form-fitting outfits. I have worn one of the blouses and really like it. This is nice and I know the stuff will fit after washing.

Kinda funny as I keep telling myself, "No not size 18 or X-large, you need medium and 14 or 16." All part of healing. Maybe I don't hate to clothes shop after all!

Chloe

Healing is grand

**Notes from the Forum **

Did you manage the scrambled egg? And something to go with? I hope so. If you can just get breakfast it's like a little present to your body, and you need looking after with so much going on in your life.

My philosophy is that my hair, dishes, everything else can stay as they are 'til I have had breakfast...they will wait. Then all is that bit easier to deal with.

Though I have a great appetite most of the time, if under stress like that, I lose my appetite.... experience has proved that having breakfast anyway is really really helpful. I have found doing the food a support when life gets overwhelming or sad.

Maybe you could consider shake at this time as well, as being an easy convenient option. Maybe some Restore shake would hit the spot. Check in with us if you can!

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

I heard about Kathleen's "Finding a Safe Place" CD and when the budget allowed it, I made a point of ordering it. It couldn't have come at a better time. It arrived at a time when I was really concerned about one of my grown sons. A couple of lapses in judgment could lead to some very serious long-term consequences.

I had not been sleeping well that week, so I was pretty off-balance when all this happened. I'd been searching my food journal for clues, keeping my sleep journal stats carefully, and I suspect the change of seasons plus my husband's and my different temperature preferences were part of it.

At the height of my distress, here comes my package from Radiant Recovery! I started using that CD that very day. I liked the fact that it didn't ask me to imagine my ideal life, or make any particular demands of me. All I needed to do was imagine myself feeling safe. The second time I listened to it, it was soothing to the point of tears. I was a much calmer person when we went to see our son than I would have otherwise been.

The best part of all is that I slept all the way through the night for two nights now! I will add "meditation CD" to my sleep journal as part of my routine for good sleep.

In my unhealed days a challenge like this would have sent me straight to chocolate. Even more recently I would have started snacking on cheese and whole grain products. This time my Step 3 is steady and I'm getting good sleep, so I'm sending this out to YLD.

I would encourage anyone to get this CD and see what it does for their program. If I feel this good after only two days, imagine what 30 days will bring!

Lora

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

LEMON CHICKEN STIR FRY Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts or 1 1/2 lbs. Chicken tenders
  • 1 Tbl. wheat free, low sodium soy sauce or tamari sauce
  • 5 Tbl. cornstarch
  • 1-bunch scallions
  • 1 large lemon
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 Tbl. golden balsamic vinegar
  • 3/4 cup chicken stock
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1 Tbl. water or stock
Process:

  1. If you use chicken breasts, they will need to be tenderized first. You can skip this step if you use tenderize, chicken tenders which are naturally tender. To tenderize, place breasts between 2 pieces of plastic wrap or wax paper and gently flatten to ¼ inch with a rolling pin
  2. Cut chicken into strips 2 inches x 1/2 inch. Put strips in a bowl with soy sauce – toss to coat. Sprinkle 4 Tbl. of cornstarch over mixture and coat each piece of chicken, set aside.
  3. Trim the roots off the scallions and cut diagonally into ½ pieces, set aside.
  4. With a peeler remove the lemon rind in thin strips and then cut into fine shreds. If you are in a hurry, you can grate the lemon rind instead. Squeeze juice from lemon and set aside.
  5. Mix remaining Tbl. of cornstarch with 1 Tbl. of water or stock to form a thickening paste. Have ready the remaining ingredients (garlic, vinegar, stock) because once you start cooking, the stir-fry goes very quickly and you will need all ingredients immediately at hand.
  6. Heat about 2 Tbl. olive oil in a wok or large (10" or more) frying pan and cook the chicken quickly over high heat. Work in very small batches so that chicken browns lightly without steaming. Each batch should take 3 to 4 minutes to cook. Keep each cooked batch warm on a plate as you fry the rest of the chicken. Add oil as necessary to finish all the stir-fry.
  7. Add 1 Tbl. oil to skillet. Heat quickly, then add garlic and stir-fry for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  8. Add lemon zest, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar and stock. Bring to a boil. Add cornstarch paste and whisk to make a thickened sauce. Add chicken strips and scallions. Make sure all pieces are coated nicely. Taste, add salt or pepper if desired. Continue to heat for a minute or two more. Serve immediately with brown rice.

Yield: 4 servings

**Radiant YLD **

Our approach to weight loss is based on Kathleen DesMaisons’ groundbreaking book, Your Last Diet! This is weight loss for real people. Your last Diet! Is the only weight loss program especially for sugar sensitive people. It addresses YOUR unique body and brain.

The first part of Your Last Diet works on healing the addiction to sugar by balancing your blood sugar, raising your serotonin and beta endorphin (brain chemicals associated with addiction)

This extraordinary text describes a process that means you will NEVER diet again. The program heals the reasons why you are overweight. It walks you through four-phase process to lose weight permanently and totally stop the pattern of yo-yo dieting. The 4 phases are:
  1. Weight Loss Readiness
  2. Healing
  3. Action and weight loss
  4. Staying Steady
Ignore that old idea of weight as a function of calories, exercise and will power. That won’t work for you. You have already tried it and you know you need something more. You are a diet expert. It is time to convert those skills into a plan that heals.

This lifetime membership gives you everything you need to succeed at weight loss. There is NO failure in this program. There is no pressure, no stress, no yelling in your face. We think of this as a program for The Biggest Winner! Your program will include:
  • People who understand and mentor you
  • A dedicated list on Yahoo with Direct access to Kathleen
  • Access to a dedicated chat held at 2 different times each week
  • Access to classes specific to weight loss
There is no step requirement to participate, only honesty, willingness and openness. This is a lifetime membership program with a one time fee of $99.

If you would like to join, come find us here

**Radiant Life **

The special membership program is all about support for learning how to *live* as you move towards radiance. The stability of your food and the steps will form a foundation to bring you into a new way of living. We will talk about emotional sobriety, finding passion in your life, disarming things that get in the way, program maturation and, of course, spirituality. When we are caught in addiction, we stop growing, we get stuck and stay stuck. Our commitment to doing life without addiction has catapulted us into something unexpected.

Radiant Living will allow you to share a dialogue with others – people who are asking the same questions and exploring answers boldly and with the humility that comes with doing the food.

These conversations will help you transform fear and give new tools for healing. We look at topics such as grief, crisis, trauma, emotional healing, revitalizing your program and stepping into your big self.

So the dialogue will be about the big picture and the practical ideas for daily implementations of the changes you are seeking. The dialogue will meet you where you are and offer ideas that you may not have heard before. Let go of old thinking that growing up has to be hard or painful. This is about joy, discovery, fun and creativity. And, of course, LOTS of laughter.

There is no step requirement to participate, only honesty, willingness and openness. This is a life time membership program with a one time fee of $99.

**Our Online Groups **

Most of us underestimate the importance of breakfast and try to do all the steps in the first week. When that doesn't work, we begin again. We concentrate on Step 1, breakfast, and find our lives begin to change.

The Step One Breakfast list is a great place to learn the nuances of breakfast, build a strong foundation for the rest of the steps, and find how helpful it is to share our journey with others. It is great for new people and those who have been on the program a long time. Sharing helps everyone.

The awesome thing is we all, Step 1 or Step 7, eat breakfast every single day. How cool is that?

We have had a lot of people join us this week. Do plan on coming over to the breakfast list to talk with others about what you are learning. Since we are doing the breakfast class this week, it is a nice combination.

Or come to the group page to find the one that will best support your program: http://www.radiantrecovery.com/list_serves.htm

**Numbers **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

We were recently having a conversation in the weight loss class about tightening up the steps. One of the class members ranked the quality of each step as a 90% or 100%. Then she averaged the seven steps to get a sense of how she was doing. Her average was 90%.

Connie chimed in and said that kind of math doesn't work in this instance. She talked about how the steps are cumulative. And that when you did the math a different way, the actual score was 68%.

Some of us, including me, said, WHAT are you talking about! I asked her to try again. Intuitively, I knew she was onto something. But this explanation is a winner.

A quick Google search didn't show up any high-level intro explanations of quality and reliability in steps, so I'll just make up an example. First I'll use one for an everyday manufacturing process, and then I'll talk about our 7 steps.

For the everyday manufacturing, say Connie decides to make a DVD about Warrior Wellness available at her web site. The steps to get the DVD from the manufacturer to the person, are:

  1. DVD maker sends the DVDs to Connie's mail room (LOL)
  2. Connie takes orders from the net and gets them ready to ship
  3. The shipper, say the US mail, ships to the person
  4. The person gets it
  5. The person can play it! yay!

What we want is, 100% of the DVDs getting from the manufacturer to the person. But let's say each step has 10% problems:

  1. 10% of the DVDs get squished when Connie drops the box in her mail room to sign the invoice
  2. 10% of the addresses entered on Connie's web site are off somehow
  3. 10% of the people's mailboxes are ripped off from local drug guys stealing identities, and they rudely toss the DVD
  4. 10% of the CDs don't work in the person's DVD player somehow (Connie has el cheapo manufacturer)

So, you'd think, well okay, each step is 90% there, so my customers should be 90% happy right? But let's follow 100 DVDs.

  1. After Connie drops the box of DVDs, there are 90 DVDs on the way to the customer. (90% of 100)
  2. After step 2, wrong mail address, there are 80 DVDs (90% of 90 DVDs)
  3. After step 3, the mail theft, there are 72 DVDs on the way to the customer. (90% of 80)
  4. After step 4, unplayable DVDs, there are 63 DVDs that actually get to the customer. (90% of 72)

So of those 100 DVDs starting out, only 63 got to my customer. That makes a "reliability" of 63% for the end-to-end process. But I thought each step was 90% ! well, it is. Still, if what I want is DVDs to customers, I find a way to tighten those steps.

This happens to EVERY process where the later steps depend on the reliability of the earlier steps.

What I think is hard to understand until it's experienced , is that our steps really truly DO depend on each other. No one else in the diet world talks about this and that's why they all say, make these zillion changes all together.

And, our steps each have smaller steps, so imagine the opportunities to get a little off. Here's just ONE path.

  1. Breakfast. Protein is 90% of what it needs to be.
  2. Journal. Writing 90% down, but maybe the 10% not written, is what happened after breakfast with light protein! So now I lost a little feedback.
  3. 3 meals, 90%. Lunch had "justa" whites and it was early. Somehow I was "extra hungry" today but I don't make the connection to breakfast.
  4. Vitamins. 90%. I ran out of vitamin C days ago and keep forgetting to pick some up. Hence, my food is not metabolized quite as well. I'm a little hungry.
  5. Browns. 90%. By dinner I feel off and resentful and have my browns and then some.
  6. Sugars. 90%. More justas. I make the family a program-friendly dessert and have more of it than is appropriate for my plan right now.

For me, this would be a day for overeating either at dinner or at spud time. I might THINK "oh, my program is 90% on" but, that evening sure FEELS like a not-so-good, only 50% radiant day, and sure enough, the idea of multiplying instead of averaging, matches what I'm feeling.

Connie
