More dog stories first. I have a dog who has been with me for a long time. I recently adopted him out and they brought him back because he kept breaking out. He kept breaking out because he wanted to be back. So he is back, and he wants to be in the house so he breaks out of the fence and stands by the front gate. Yesterday, I went out and did some clicker training. He was having a hard time paying attention because there was a hot air balloon and he is afraid of them. I decided to teach him to look at the balloon and get a treat. When we started, he was hysterical and saying, 'OMG, it is coming to eat me!!' Glance at it, click, yummy food in mouth. After five minutes, he was LOOKING at the balloon.

I think this is like our own fears. We get scared by things and get all amped up. If we shift the reality to *look at it* and get a reward, things change. It becomes a thing to look. Something to think about.

I have a couple of things for you to check out this week. Cathy Cassata wrote a terrific article about sugar addiction:

I think it pretty fairly represents what we all have been talking about for years. But it is a really nice discussion. Stop over there, share with your friends and family and leave comments if you like. My daughter liked it a lot and felt she captured the essence of the story.

The Addiction Amoeba (2 weeks) - So you have gotten the food steady and are ready to take a look at the other stuff - gambling, debt, shopping, work, money, sex, you name it. A tender look at the biochemistry of these and how doing the food is going to help all of them.
Clearing All That Stuff (2 weeks) - An advanced look at what is underneath the clutter. Why does it come back? What do the things represent to us? What is really going on for us? This class is a follow-up to our recent chat in Radiant LIving. If you are ready for answers, this is the place.

Step 2: Introduction (2 weeks) - will teach you the basics of journaling. The class will give you step by step instructions in how to record your food and feelings in a way that gets you excited.
Dopamine (2 weeks) - a look at sugar sensitivity and dopamine. Learn about the fourth leg of the story and see if this is your missing piece.

**Testimonial of the Week **


Last evening we had a big thunderstorm and half an inch of rain. We are in a moderate drought so the storm was a blessing.

This morning the dogs and I were taking our morning walk. It was gorgeous out there, the rain was shining off everything in the woods, all the leaves on the trees, the ferns, the flowers, just everything, even shining in the mist when a ray of sun shot through the darkness of the woods.

I have Border Collies and a toy poodle. It is nice to walk with the bc's because they just goof around, they aren't hunting dogs, so they don't really use their eyes or nose to look for critters. My poodle caught a scent and reacted just enough to get my attention, but no one else's. I looked up and over where she was looking (by then she was off on something else). That ray of sun was shining off everything.....and as I looked I saw a red gold color...I looked harder and in the wet sunshine and the mist I could finally make out the shape of a doe deer. She was standing so stock still that she looked like a tree. I would never have seen her had I not been really looking.

Right away I thought of the yoga tree pose. She gave me a yoga lesson I will always remember when I do that pose. Even I could "feel" the roots she was putting down into the earth to steady her body and breathing and make her invisible to danger. It was just one of those moments in life where as a part of universe I felt so tiny and blessed.

Then I thought what a gift this program has given me. In the pre-RR days I would never have had this morning. First of all, I would never have been out there. The reason is because today was a super busy day for me. I had to be ready to leave for the day by 9:00 am. I am usually home all the time and rarely gone anywhere for a whole day.

I had to get up, get my breakfast, walk the dogs, pack my lunch and potluck contribution, do all my chores, shower and dress all before 9:00! In the old days, just the idea of doing that would have stressed me out so much I probably wouldn't have gone.

But today, I had decided yesterday what I would wear, eat, and had a list of things I had to have done before I left. I promised myself I would not turn on the computer until I came home. I was so well prepared that I didn't get anxious or stressed or angry. AND one of the first things I would have done in the old days was to not take time for a walk because I would have been too busy getting ready. So, not only did I get my walk, but I got a special blessing.

Then, after I got back from the walk, my niece called me and needed some help in making a decision that was very serious. I had time because of my planning yesterday to spend 15 minutes on the phone LISTENING to her, not telling her what I thought she should do!

Oh, it was just such a special morning, I am so grateful. Talk about BE raisers--first the deer and then the dear (my niece)!

Plus I had a wonderful time at my day outing! Yep, this program is soooo much more than removing sugar! 'Cause I haven't even done that yet!

Thank you all for helping me to have this wonderful life.

Welcome! I'm glad you are here.

Please don't try to do the whole program right now. Not only is doing everything at once the worst way to do the program, but you also picked the very worst time of year to attempt it. (And believe me, most of us tried to do what you are doing. Very few succeeded that way. So this isn't a criticism, just a bit of friendly advice.)

The best thing you can do is to just work on step 1, breakfast. Have you found something you like? That should be a lot easier to maintain through the holidays.

Many people do end up giving up caffeine, but that's something you would address farther along. On step 3, if you are having sugar in your caffeinated drinks, you would move them to meals. I did end up quitting caffeine, but I didn't even try to deal with it until I'd been on step 6 for 6 months and was stable.

**Radiant Kitchen **


CORN BLUEBERRY MUFFINS

  • 1 cup blue (or yellow) cornmeal
  • 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1 T. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 4 T. apple juice
  • 2 eggs 1 1/4 cups oatmilk
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries (frozen can also be used)
Preheat oven to 400. In a mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients. Make a well in the center. In another bowl, combine all the liquid ingredients. Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix just until combined. Do NOT over mix. Gently fold in blueberries, avoid overmixing. Spray a nonstick muffin pan with cooking spray. Fill each cup 2/3 full. Bake 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean

**Some New Options **

I wanted to share a little about some new options we have been doing as a way to support your process. A number of people have asked me about working with them individually. This led me to think about the most ideal method for intensive support.

I designed a *signature plan* which involves a 90 day commitment including 3 hour assessments and check ups, a weekly 30 minute check in via Skype, an online interactive food journal and regular email comments from me. The regular price for this level of support would be $1680. The signature package is $1260 which represents a 25% reduction and averages a $100 a week in fees with a $60 admin fee. Everyone has felt this was a very reasonable way to approach it.

Here are some of the ways we have designed individualized support:

  • If you are having a hard time getting traction. We discovered that the interactive journal is a really, really exciting tool.
  • If you are dealing with a number of other addictions in trying to sort out what to do when and how.
  • If you are struggling with weight loss and you feel ready to climb out of your skin, this can be a unique option to learn an entirely different approach.
  • If you are trying to sort out how to work with the kids and are just stuck. Having intensive feedback and guidance seems to offer a wonderful structure.
  • If you want intensive support, if you have special needs that would benefit from ongoing guidance or you would like to make a serious commitment to your program, this is the way to go.
Of course, if you are not ready to do this, or not in a position to do it, there are many other options. Email me and we can chat about ideas.
